I first met Jeff and Dena last January before they were engaged. Jeff had contacted me to gift a couples session to Dena for Christmas and when the time came for their session, I had a great time laughing with them and getting to know them. When Jeff messaged me to tell me they were engaged and they wanted ME to photograph their wedding, I remember literally jumping for joy. These two are so kind and such a genuine joy to be around, I’m glad I got to be a part of their beautiful South Carolina Aquarium wedding!
Dena and Jeff started their wedding day at Hotel Emeline. I loved starting the day by photographing all of their blue details that complemented their Aquarium venue so nicely. Dena wore a gorgeous custom made lace gown and Jeff sported a handmade bowtie made by Dena’s friend and bridesmaid.
Before the first look, Jeff was so ready to see his bride but she had a trick up her sleeve! A few months before their wedding day, Dena contacted me to let me know she wanted to surprise Jeff with a first look with his best man, Sam. Jeff was so surprised and doubled over with laughter when he turned to see Sam in a wedding dress and veil! The surprise was kept so hush hush by everyone and Jeff had NO idea this was in the works. When it was time for the the real first look with Dena, both of them were so ready to see each other!
To take some wedding party portraits, we took the bus over to Washington Square and then on to Chalmers Street for some bride and groom shots on the cobblestone. The wedding party were such troopers and endured the June heat like champs!
From there, it was finally time to head over to the South Carolina Aquarium to say “I do”! The aquarium’s patio was decked out with cafe lighting and a gorgeous floral arbor for the ceremony. The ceremony was accented by sailboats passing on the Charleston Harbor and a curious pelican watching over the proceedings.
Between Jeff’s dance down the aisle and Dena’s beaming smile when she met him at the alter, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. There was so much joy in the air as they became husband and wife. During her vows, Dena said that marrying Jeff will always be a “hell yes” and I absolutely love that.
Afterwards, they joined so many friends and family and celebrated with drinks, dancing, and great food. Dena and Jeff ended the night with a sparkler exit and were whisked away on a rickshaw, in true Charleston fashion.
Congratulations new Mr. and Mrs! I loved every second of your South Carolina Aquarium wedding. Thank you for having me along for the journey!
